The Race for Red Mary is a fantastic story of high action drama and rivalry between the two main characters, Tom Thumb and John the Giant, who go head to head for the affection of the saucy Red Mary in a series of macho-istic battles. The personalities of these distinctive characters really come alive through the monologues in this play and provide a chance to delve into the imagination of the creators. The end product of the About Face writers workshop has evolved into an audio visual experience. The participants made fantastic use of a recent opportunity to record their radio play in conjunction with professional actors at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation studios based in Bunbury. The art works created during the workshop have also been incorporated into a short visual media presentation to be aired with the radio production as a complete art installation piece. In order to aid the audio, the visuals aim to provide the audience with an additional multi-media element to contextualize the creative thinking behind the inspiration for the radio play. The About Face participants are also set to further merge with their alter egos when they attend the Shorelines Festival screening in the guise of their “Race for Red Mary” characters. “The Race for Red Mary” is a free event that will be aired at the City of Bunbury Shorelines Writers Festival at 3pm on Saturday the 7th of October 2006 at Benesse Café, 83 Victoria Street Bunbury.
